About Lake Ashton

Lake Ashton is a gated 55+ community of about 1,200 acres along US 27 between Winter Haven and Lake Wales. It is split into two sections with two HOAs: Lake Ashton on the Lake Wales side (ZIP 33859) and Lake Ashton II on the Winter Haven side (ZIP 33884). The community is age-restricted under the federal HOPA rules, with at least one resident 55 or older in each household. Homes are mostly single-family and villa product built from the early 2000s onward, with lake and golf views common. The amenity package is the main reason buyers look here: a 26,000 square foot clubhouse, a health and fitness center, a bowling alley, a theater and a busy social calendar. Golf is separate. Lake Ashton Golf Club runs two 18-hole courses, and membership is an optional add-on rather than part of the base HOA. The community sits inside a Community Development District, so expect CDD charges on the property tax bill in addition to HOA dues, and confirm the current figures for the exact lot.

The golf at Lake Ashton

Lake Ashton Golf Club has 36 holes on two courses, East and West, designed by the firm Clifton, Ezell and Clifton. The club opened in the early 2000s, with sources placing the first course in 2002 to 2004 and additional holes built later. Both courses are private and played by members and their guests, and the routing takes advantage of the lakes that give the community its name. Practice facilities include a driving range and pro shop. Golf membership is sold separately from HOA dues, so residents who do not play are not paying for the courses. Because there are two courses for a community-sized membership, tee times are usually easier to come by than at single-course clubs, especially outside the winter peak.

Living in Lake Ashton: location and lifestyle

Lake Ashton is on US 27, which connects north to Haines City and I-4 and south to Lake Wales and Sebring. Winter Haven's downtown and the Chain of Lakes are about 15 minutes away, and Legoland Florida is close. Lake Wales offers Bok Tower Gardens, a historic garden and carillon tower that draws visitors year-round, and Lake Wales Ridge State Forest is nearby for trails. Everyday shopping is along US 27 and in Winter Haven. Tampa is roughly an hour and 10 minutes away, and Orlando is about an hour. Inside the gates, most daily life runs through the clubhouse, fitness center and clubs, so many residents rarely need to leave for activities. Lake Ashton itself has lake frontage that some homes back up to, which adds water views and sunsets to the golf setting inside the gates.
