About Countryside

Countryside is one of the best-known planned areas in north Pinellas, covering a big part of northeast Clearwater around Countryside Boulevard, U.S. 19, and McMullen Booth Road. It grew in the 1970s and early 1980s as a collection of named subdivisions, many with Countryside in the title, such as Woodgate of Countryside, Westchester of Countryside, and Oak Forest of Countryside. The golf homes cluster around Countryside Country Club. Clubhouse Estates of Countryside, for example, is a 68-home subdivision with houses built between 1976 and 1982 on streets such as Clubhouse Drive and Augusta Drive. Most homes are concrete block ranch and two-story designs on established lots, and many have been updated over the years, so condition varies widely from one listing to the next. Associations differ by subdivision, and some sections have no mandatory association at all, so ask for documents early. The private club is the anchor. It is part of the Invited network and sells memberships separately, which means a fairway home does not come with playing privileges unless you join. Westfield Countryside mall and the Countryside Recreation Center are close by, so daily errands rarely take long.

The golf at Countryside

Countryside Country Club opened in the early 1970s and today plays as 27 holes split into three nines: Bayhead, Lake, and Pine. Each nine is par 36 and measures roughly 3,250 to 3,400 yards from the back tees, so any two-nine combination gives a full championship round. The club credits Gary Player with redesigning all three. Lake winds past mature oaks and palms and includes a half-island par 3, Bayhead uses strategically placed bunkers and rolling fairways, and Pine adds more elevation change than most Pinellas courses offer. The club is private and operated by Invited, formerly ClubCorp. Its membership has included access to three other Tampa area Invited clubs, Ardea at East Lake Woodlands, Hunter's Green, and Tampa Palms, plus reciprocal play across the national network. Practice facilities include putting greens and a driving range, and the club also offers 14 lighted tennis courts, pools, a fitness center, and a spa.

Is club membership required in Countryside?

Optional. Countryside is a neighborhood of many separate subdivisions, and the private club sells memberships separately through Invited. A membership there has included access to Ardea (East Lake Woodlands), Hunter's Green, and Tampa Palms.

Living in Countryside: location and lifestyle

Countryside is centrally placed in north Pinellas. Westfield Countryside, one of the county's larger malls, sits at U.S. 19 and State Road 580, and the surrounding corridor has grocery stores, restaurants, and medical offices. The City of Clearwater's Countryside Recreation Center and library are nearby. Commuters head east on State Road 580 or Curlew Road to the Courtney Campbell Causeway or McMullen Booth Road, which puts Tampa International Airport about 25 minutes away in light traffic.
